On Thursday, 29 April, the Saeima appointed Mr. Aivis Ronis the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Ninety Saeima members voted for the appointment of Mr. Ronis, none voted against, and 1 abstained. 

Until now Mr. Ronis worked in the NATO Strategic Concept Expert Group. From 1991 to 2005, he held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the post of the ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the U.S.A. and the post of ambassador to NATO. He has graduated from the Philosophy Department of the University of Latvia and has studied at the Columbia University, the U.S.A.
