On Thursday, 16 December, gingerbread biscuits were iced, and Christmas-tree decorations, as well as other gifts for children, were made at the creative Christmas workshop located by the main building of the Saeima. Speaker Solvita Āboltiņa, MPs, families with children and staff members of the Saeima were involved in the workshop.

Common materials were used to make beautiful decorations and Christmas presents. Christmas cards, iced gingerbread biscuits, gift boxes, party decorations, Christmas tree decorations from yarn and natural materials, as well as other lovely little presents, were handmade at the workshop.

“Everyone had a chance to try their hand in making decorations and presents at the workshop. I am glad that passers-by and MPs showed an interest in this activity,” said the Speaker of the Saeima. “Each year at Christmas time, the Saeima takes part in a charity campaign. This year we will provide disadvantaged families with things needed in their daily life. But we also wanted to add heartfelt gifts to our practical support; thus the idea of a Christmas workshop was born. Participants of this workshop experienced a lot of joy in making gifts, and we hope these gifts will bring joy to their recipients.” 

Decorations, gingerbread biscuits and other gifts made at the workshop will be added to the presents that will be distributed to disadvantaged families by MPs and staff members of the Saeima as part of the annual Christmas charity campaign.

This year, the Saeima together with Dace, an association that supports the needy, will give disadvantaged families practical and handy items for everyday life, as well as small artistic presents.
