From 11 to 12 January, Mrs.Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, will go to Lithuania on an official visit. In Vilnius, she will meet with Lithuania’s top officials and participate in events commemorating the Barricades of 1991. This will be the Speaker’s first visit abroad.
One of the events commemorating the Barricades of 1991 will be held at the Lithuanian National Radio and Television building, where Mrs.Solvita Āboltiņa will deliver a speech addressing the freedom fighters of 1991 and other attendees. The Speaker of the Saeima will also participate in a commemorative event at Independence Square next to the Seimas building.
During the official visit, the Speaker of the Saeima will meet with Mrs.Irena Degutienė, Speaker of the Lithuanian parliament. Mrs.Solvita Āboltiņa will also discuss intergovernmental relations with Ms.Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania, and Mr.Andrius Kubilius, Prime Minister of Lithuania.
During the visit, Mrs.Āboltiņa will attend an exhibition about the Lithuanian art in the 20th century at the National Art Museum, as well as the Vilnius University. The Saeima Speaker will also attend the Embassy of Latvia in Lithuania where she will meet with representatives of the Latvian community.
On her visit the Saeima Speaker will be accompanied by Mr.Andrejs Klementjevs, Deputy Speaker of the Saeima, as well as Mr.Jānis Reirs, Chairman of the Saeima Budget and Finance (Taxation) Committee and Head of the Latvian delegation to the Baltic Assembly.
