The first sitting of the 11th Saeima will be held on Monday, 17 October. The date was set by the Central Election Commission pursuant to the Saeima Election Law. With the first sitting of the 11th Saeima, the mandate of the 10th Saeima will expire.
According to the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia, the Saeima, which has been elected after dissolution of the previous convocation, assembles for its first sitting within one month after the elections.
On 17 September, during its first sitting, the newly elected parliament will have to check and approve mandates of the members of the 11th Saeima.
Pursuant to the supreme law of the state, the Saeima is elected for a term of four years; however, different regulations apply to a parliament that has been elected after the previous parliament has been dissolved. Thus the term of office of the 11th Saeima will end on the first Tuesday of November 2014, when the first sitting of the 12th Saeima is held.
The first sitting of the 11th Saeima will begin on 17 October at 9.00 a.m.
