On Friday, 19 October, in the Riga English Grammar School, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, in her presentation on the Saeima’s work launched a new project of the Latvian parliament – the school programme “Meet the Saeima”.

The Saeima has developed an interactive presentation that will help schoolchildren to learn more about the work of the parliament. The chief aim of the programme is to raise awareness on the legislature’s impact on the youth and their opportunities to participate in and contribute to the legislative process. After “graduating” from the presentation, each class will receive a certificate of attendance signed by the Speaker.

Today, Solvita Āboltiņa, in answering questions raised by 12th-grade students of the Riga English Grammar School, explained about the MPs’ work apart from the plenary sittings, which is the most visible part of parliamentary work, and shared her story of how and why she became a politician.

The presentation that has been developed specifically for students includes audiovisual and interactive elements that engage the audience and prompts the students to independently seek answers about the Saeima. The presentation also offers moot sessions of voting on topical issues.

The one-hour presentation targets senior secondary school students, and it is delivered by representatives of the Saeima.

Please feel free to apply for the programme via telephone 67087321 or e-mail info@saeima.lv.So far, during Open Door Day held earlier this year more than 40 schools from across Latvia have applied for the programme.
The school programme is also offered as part of a guided tour at the Saeima buildings, with the presentation delivered in the Visitor and Information Centre of the Saeima.
