On Tuesday, 4 November, Ināra Mūrniece was elected as the Speaker of the 12th Saeima.
By an open ballot, 68 MPs voted in favour and 30 MPs against the candidacy of Ināra Mūrniece.
In the previous convocation of the Saeima, Ināra Mūrniece was the Chairperson of the Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee, a member of the Social Cohesion Committee, and a member of the Civic Education Subcommittee of the Education, Culture and Science Committee.
Before being elected to the Saeima, Ināra Mūrniece was a journalist for 16 years at the newspaper Latvijas Avīze, where she reported on topical internal affairs and foreign policy matters.
Ināra Mūrniece graduated from the professional bachelor’s study programme in translation of the University College of Economics and Culture, and she also has a degree in translation from the University of Latvia.
