The ceremonial sitting of the Saeima on 4 May in honour of the 25th anniversary of the renewal of independence of the Republic of Latvia will take place at the Latvian National Theatre.
The ceremonial sitting will be addressed by Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, as well as Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Lithuanian parliament; Eiki Nestor, President of the Estonian parliament; and Einar K. Guðfinnsson, Speaker of the Icelandic parliament.
The ceremonial sitting will be followed by a concert featuring music by Latvian composers performed by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and State Choir Latvija conducted by Māris Sirmais, as well as maestro Raimonds Pauls and students of the Riga Dome Choir School.
Among the guests invited to the ceremonial sitting are Andris Bērziņš, President of Latvia, as well as all former presidents of the restored state, members of the incumbent Saeima, members of the Supreme Council who voted for the renewal of independence, all former speakers of the Saeima, members of the Cabinet of Ministers and other officials appointed by the Saeima.
Likewise, the foreign diplomatic corps, activists of the Latvian independence movement, representatives of the traditional denominations and the clergy, rescue workers from the Zolitūde tragedy, members of the 5th Youth Parliament who will have received the title of Future Politician, and others are invited to attend the sitting.
The ceremonial sitting of the Saeima of 4 May and the concert will be broadcast live on Latvian Television and Latvian Radio.
The ceremonial sitting of the Saeima will commence at noon on 4 May at the Latvian National Theatre at Kronvalda bulvāris 2.
