Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, on behalf of the parliament, expressed sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims of the tragic roof collapse of a supermarket in Zolitūde.
“It is especially tragic that so many were killed and injured during last night’s events and that among the victims there are children and those who selflessly and bravely participated in the rescue effort without sparing the most precious thing they have, namely, their lives,” said Āboltiņa.
The Speaker wished a speedy recovery to all who were injured in the accident. She thanked all the workers and services involved in saving the trapped and dealing with the aftermath of the tragedy.
The Speaker will take part in the memorial service to be held today in the Riga Cathedral to commemorate the victims of the tragedy in Zolitūde.
