Inese Lībiņa-Egnere, Deputy Speaker of the Saeima, and Andrejs Klementjevs, Secretary of the Saeima, are on a visit to Astana, Kazakhstan, where they met with Rapil Zhoshibaev, Commissioner of Expo Astana 2017. The Saeima representatives confirmed Latvia’s readiness to participate in the international exhibition to be held next year in Kazakhstan.
Representatives of Expo Astana 2017 expressed appreciation that the high-level delegation from the Saeima showed interest in the details of the upcoming event. The organisers explained that the international exhibition is expected to attract as many as five million visitors. The three-moth event is planned to host pavilions from more than 100 countries, including Latvia, from around the world.
“Latvia’s participation in Expo 2017 is a great opportunity for promoting economic ties between Latvia and Kazakhstan, placing a special emphasis on the services we offer in the sector of transport and logistics. Mainly it is an opportunity to promote the seaports of Liepaja, Ventspils and Riga as transit hubs with railway connections,” said Lībiņa-Egnere.
Deputy Speaker informed that the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has already started making arrangements for building Latvia’s pavilion and coordinating potential participants to represent Latvia in Astana.
Secretary Klementjevs pointed out that the Saeima had already expressed its support for Latvia’s participation in Expo 2017 during a meeting with Adilbek Zhaksybekov, Mayor of Astana, in October 2015.
Expo Astana 2017 will be held 10 June – 10 September 2017.
