The Saeima Visitor and Information Centre, which plays a crucial role in fostering parliamentary dialogue with society, is a direct source of information on the work of the Parliament and has been implementing various projects already for 13 years. The Visitor Centre was established on 29 January 2009.
In 13 years, the Centre has received nearly 72 000 submissions, provided more than 14 000 phone consultations via the Saeima hotline, and welcomed almost 25 000 visitors.
To promote parliamentary openness, the Saeima organises various thematic conferences and discussions on issues of public interest, informative and educational events for young people, as well as ceremonial and socially significant events and campaigns. In recent years, most of the events and campaigns have been organised in an online format in order to adapt to the changes brought about by COVID‑19.
This includes lectures of the school programme “Meet the Saeima” run by the Parliament, which are now held exclusively online. The programme aims at sparking young people’s interest in political processes in Latvia, educating them about the Saeima, its structure, the legislative process, the work of MPs, democracy, and civic participation. So far, almost 3000 pupils from 145 schools have taken part in the online school programme.
A variety of informative materials, such as infographics, videos, presentations, and fact sheets, have been developed to educate about the work of the Saeima. Information on events and news are publicly available on the Parliament's Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Instagram accounts, as well as on its YouTube channel.
To limit the spread of COVID‑19, in-person appointments at the Visitor and Information Centre are only permitted for the purpose of lodging a submission. For other matters or to learn about the work of the Parliament, the Centre remains available for remote consultations.
In-person appointments can be booked by calling +371 6708 7321 or by sending an e‑mail to info@saeima.lv. Upon prior appointment, the Centre receives visitors on weekdays from 9:00 to 16:30 at Jēkaba iela 16 (entrance from Trokšņu iela).
Written submissions to the Saeima may be sent by post addressed to Jēkaba iela 11, Rīga, LV‑1811, Latvija, by e-mail to saeima@saeima.lv, using the Saeima e‑address 90000028300, or via the portal www.latvija.lv.
