On Tuesday, 1 November, the 14th convocation of the Saeima elected its Presidium in an open procedure with ballot papers.
Members of the new convocation of the Parliament elected Edvards Smiltēns as the Speaker of the Saeima with 82 votes in favour and 11 against.
The MPs elected Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica as a Deputy Speaker of the Saeima with 87 votes in favour and 11 against.
The MPs elected Jānis Grasbergs as a Deputy Speaker of the Saeima with 86 votes in favour and 12 against.
Armands Krauze was elected the Secretary of the Saeima with 87 votes in favour and 12 against.
Antoņina Ņenaševa was elected the Deputy Secretary of the Saeima with 79 votes in favour and 19 against.
The Presidium of the Saeima consists of the Speaker of the Saeima, two Deputy Speakers, the Secretary, and the Deputy Secretary. The members of the Presidium determine the internal rules and working procedures of the Saeima, issue opinions, and, based on the Rules of Procedure of the Saeima, process or forward relevant matters, determine the agenda for plenary sittings, meet with foreign officials, and perform various other duties.
