A van previously used by the Latvian Parliament has departed for Ukraine to bring gifts collected in a Christmas charity event for boarding school children in Yablunivka, Chernihiv Oblast. Afterwards, the van will be handed over to Ukraine to ensure the rotation of troops to the front line.
The nine-seat van will be delivered to Ukraine by the Twitter Convoy organised by the association Agendum, which provides material support for the country ravaged by war. The van is set to reach its destination in Ukraine shortly before Christmas.
Every year in December, the Saeima joins efforts in the Parliament’s annual Christmas charity event to provide gifts for children who are in particular need of support. This year, in collaboration with the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia, the Parliament is providing gifts for a boarding school in Yablunivka, which houses 120 students, including orphans and children left without parental care for other reasons. The school does not have enough funds to cover all the needs of the children, including warm winter clothes, shoes, hygiene products, stationery, and food.
In addition to gifts and donations, the delivery will also include greeting cards and gingerbread hearts decorated at the Parliament’s annual creative Christmas workshop.
