On Friday, 19 April, the Saeima expressed confidence in Baiba Braže as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to her appointment as minister, Braže was an ambassador-at-large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has served as Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Public Diplomacy and has been Latvia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Indonesia and the Netherlands.

Braže is an experienced diplomat, and has held various posts within the foreign service.

A new minister had to be appointed following the resignation of Krišjānis Kariņš, who was the previous Minister of Foreign Affairs.
