Addressing her colleagues at the Conference of Speakers of the European Union (EU) Parliaments in Spain, Daiga Mieriņa, Speaker of the Saeima, invited the parliament speakers of EU Member States to attend the third Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform to take place in Riga in October.
“Let us jointly attest to our strong and unwavering support for Ukraine and consistently continue to shed light on Russia's aggression and crimes at the international level,” urged the Speaker of the Saeima. The summit aims to reinforce the understanding that, by strengthening the international rules-based order, Russia will inevitably be held accountable.
Organised in close cooperation with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform will be held in Riga as part of Latvia's comprehensive support for Ukraine and its commitment to upholding the rules-based international order. The summit aims to raise global awareness and support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
As part of her visit to Spain, the Speaker of the Saeima held bilateral meetings with Szymon Hołownia, Marshal of the Polish Sejm, Elvira Kovács, Deputy Speaker of the Serbian National Assembly, and Julia Kronlid, Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Riksdag, as well as the Baltic counterparts—Lauri Hussar, Speaker of the Estonian Riigikogu, and Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas,
During the talks, Speaker Mieriņa stressed the need for bolstering European countries' capabilities and military industry to provide all the necessary assistance to Ukraine in a timely manner.
The Conference of Speakers of the EU Parliaments is an annual forum for speakers to exchange views, information, and experience. It is attended by the speakers of the national parliaments of the EU Member States, the President of the European Parliament, and the parliament speakers of the EU candidate countries. This time, the Conference of Speakers of the EU Parliaments takes place from 21 to 23 April in Palma, Spain.
