On Thursday, 20 June, the Saeima adopted a law dismissing the Rēzekne City Council.
Until the Rēzekne City Council elected in the next regular local government elections convenes for the first time, the local government will be managed by a temporary administration.
Guna Puce has been appointed as the head of the temporary administration, with Iveta Mietule and Jānis Belkovskis as her deputies.
The activities of the temporary administration will be ensured and financed from the budgetary resources of the Rēzekne State City Council, and the remuneration of the administration is set at the same level as the remuneration for the chairperson of the Council and his or her deputy.
According to the explanatory note to the draft law, the Saeima dismissed the Council in view of the fact that it had committed violations of the Law on Budget and Financial Management, the Law on Local Government Budgets and the Law on Local Governments, by failing to ensure the performance of the functions laid down in the laws and by disregarding the interests of the State and the inhabitants of the relevant administrative territory.
The Law on the Dismissal of Rēzekne State City Council will enter into force on the day after its promulgation.
