Baltic Assembly Presidium adopts statement calling for stronger cooperation of European countries in regional protection

(01.07.2024.)

In a joint statement, members of the Presidium of the Baltic Assembly (BA) call for stepping up the cooperation between European countries and rapidly increasing investments to ensure the protection of the region from any military and hybrid threats.

Jānis Vucāns, Vice President of the BA and Head of the Latvian delegation; Andrius Kupčinskas, President of the BA and Head of the Lithuanian delegation; and Enn Eesmaa, Deputy Vice President and Deputy Head of the Estonian delegation to the BA, express concern about the threats to the security of the region caused by the activities of Russia and Belarus.

The statement also affirms support for the joint letter of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland that calls on the leadership of the European Union to build a defence line along the border with Russia and Belarus to protect the EU from military threats and other harmful activities of the aggressor.

The Presidium of the BA regrets the lack of courage of the international community, which has not been able to overcome the differences of opinion and stop the war atrocities executed by Russia in Ukraine. EU and NATO member states need to support Ukraine in every possible way to ensure the rapid victory of Ukraine, thus protecting Ukrainian citizens from even more suffering and destruction, state the MPs.
