On Monday, 4 December, Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, met with Andrian Candu, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, who is in Latvia on an official visit. During the meeting, Speaker Mūrniece noted that the implementation of the reform plan is a prerequisite for deepening Moldova’s relations with the European Union.

It is now crucial that Moldova produces tangible results of the reforms, in the implementation of which the parliament plays a significant role,” Speaker Mūrniece said, also affirming Latvia’s continuous support for Moldova and the Eastern Partnership as a whole.
President Candu thanked Latvia for defending the interests of the Eastern Partnership countries within the EU and stressed that Latvia is a true friend of Moldova.
In discussing the Eastern Partnership Summit, which took place in Brussels in November, the Speaker of the Saeima remarked on the importance of the agreement of all 34 countries to continue the Eastern Partnership and deep practical cooperation.
“Latvia and Moldova share friendly bilateral relations and active political dialogue also at the parliamentary level,” Ināra Mūrniece said, noting that there is potential for cooperation in the economic and education sectors between the two countries as well.
